Established in December 27, 2015 A.D, Ujjal Foundation is a non-profit and non-governmental organization, working in Kathmandu, Nepal, that aims to create positive impact on the lives of the people in the society through its humanitarian efforts for building their quality of life. One such effort is the establishment of ‘Baa Aama Ghar’- a home for the elderly citizens who have either been abandoned by their family, or have neither family nor property, that provides them with food, clothing and basic health care. Currently the shelter home possesses the capacity of providing support to only 12-15 elderly citizens, but the organization aims to build separate shelters for men and women, having the capacity to provide support to a total of at least 100 elderly people. Furthermore, the organization is involved in distributing warm blankets to the people on the streets during cold winter nights. The organization provides emergency relief kits consisting of food and clothes, alongside other materials such as soaps, toothpastes, toothbrushes, water jars, water purifying chemicals, Oral Rehydration Salts, over-the-counter medicines, and so on, to the survivors of frequently occurring natural calamities such as floods and landslides. Recognizing the need and importance of preserving the natural environment in the present context, the organization is also involved in tree plantation program, supported by the local government and the people. The organization has also initiated ‘No Plastic Movement’ an awareness campaign in the local areas to minimize the use of plastic bags.
